This "Spotlight" series showcases employees at Massage Envy franchised locations across the country, who share why they got into their chosen fields, what they do, and what they love about their careers.
When did you decide to pursue a career in massage therapy?
When I was growing up, I would always give massages to my family and friends. I would tell my grandmother, "When I grow up, I'm going to be a massage therapist and live on the beach." I decided to pursue massage therapy after I got divorced and had the opportunity to go to massage school.
Describe your experience at massage school. What did you like about it?
I attended a great massage school. I had very good teachers and I learned so much about the body. My teachers at the Healing Hand Institute really took the time to help me understand proper body mechanics and techniques.
What excites you most about working at a Massage Envy franchised location?
I have the best franchisee owners who are always there for me. My coworkers are like family. I've been with them nine years and I have no complaints at all. We have a very professional and happy workplace.
Please tell us about a day where you felt especially proud about the work that you do?
When I won Therapist of the Year for the state of New Jersey in 2016.
When are you happiest at work?
I'm happiest when I hear my clients say, "Faye, I feel amazing" or "My pain went away." And when I train other therapists and they say "Faye, that technique you showed me really helped my client."
Massage therapists have access to 12+ free CEs each year at Massage Envy franchise locations. Have you taken any of the free CE courses?
Yes, I've taken the free CEs through Massage Envy. All my classes were very informative and I have used the techniques that I've learned.
What's the best part about living in New Jersey? Tell us something about it that others living outside the state might not know.
We are close to New York City and some beaches. We get to enjoy both city and country life. There is always something to do.
What advice would you give someone just starting their career in massage therapy?
Always LISTEN to your client.
Why should somebody consider working at a Massage Envy franchised location and building their career there?
The front desk staff at my franchised location is very good at promoting new therapists. Therapists get free CE classes and additional training from lead therapists. In my experience, you always have steady clientele.
